All Politics is Local

OK, so the Political Yak is up and live, if a bit barebones at the moment. I have a view posts in the works, but first I thought I'd take just a moment to ruminate on the site's direction and focus....

I love politics. Next to sex and good science fiction, nothing excites me more! My interest was focused primarily on the national and world political stages for a large part of my life. However, the past few years I have become increasing aware of, and involved in, politics of the local sort. By local, I mean Montgomery County, Maryland, a suburb of Washington, DC. Nearly a million people live here in the county, my family and I being among them.

We're gearing up for a perfect storm, politically, here in MoCo. Next year we will have nearly all of our local and state political offices up for grabs and a number of popular, longtime incumbents are either retiring or vacating their seats to seek higher office. Additionally, several incumbents will see strong challenges from within their own parties during the primary. It's been decades since some of these seats have seen a competitive race, particularly across party lines, and even the national parties will be paying attention. Hee, hee! Good stuff!

So, I will be expounding on all things political that interest me (that's what blogs are for, right?) but will put a lot of emphasis on issues and races of local importance in particular.

Also, a big shout-out to Jammer. I stole my tagline ("radical moderate...") from his site. I couldn't resist. It was just too good, and appropriate for my own political views. Thanks, dude! Hope you don't mind.
