Old Is New Again at Parks and Planning?

WaPo reports this morning that several members of the Montgomery County Council are lining up behind Royce Hanson, one of the nine remaining applicants for chair of Parks and Planning. Yesterday, Councilmembers Phil Andrews (D-Dist 3), Nancy Floreen (D-At Large) and Steve Silverman (D-At Large) publicly stated their support for Hanson, who is "considered the architect of the county's agricultural reserve" and has been endorsed by the Audubon Society and Sierra Club.

Hanson, a noted George Washington University professor, is no stranger to the county. He was chair of the Planning Board from 1972-81 and even has a local park named after him. The Council recently brought him on as an independent, unpaid consultant to analyze the recent failures of the planning agency (ie, Clarksburg).
