County Executive Housing Forum

All 5 candidates for Montgomery County Executive* have agreed to participate in a housing forum on August 23. The "Forum on Housing for Low-Income People" is being sponsored by the Catholic Archdiocese of Washington and the Justice and Advocacy Council of Montgomery County. The public is invited to attend.

According to the Archdiocese,
Over 10,000 qualified poor households are still on the waiting list for Federal rent support. Of the 1,000 new units the county committed to acquire for the homeless, less than 150 have been acquired through 2005, the third year of the 10-year Plan. The county has purchased almost 2,000 Moderately Priced Dwelling Units for rent, but the waiting list for these units is approximately 8,000 households.
