Subin Hugs Tree

Montgomery County Councilmember Michael Subin (D), who is running for reelection to his at-large seat, was hospitalized Friday night following a bicycle accident. It seems, according to the Gazette, that the local pol was riding his bike along the trails near his neighborhood when he lost control of the bike on some wet grass and attempted to stop himself by grabbing a tree.

Apparently the tree didn't save him from injury, as he broke several ribs and punctured a lung. Yikes! Subin, who has a reputation for being... er, well, let's just say tough, refused treatment at the time of the accident and went about his business for the day before finally taking himself to the hospital that afternoon.

I've certainly had my tussles with Subin over the years (verbal only - no broken bones), but I do wish him a speedy recovery. And extra props to Subin's aide, Lou D'Ovidio, who put the best spin on the accident stating that Subin "is hoping to get the Sierra Club endorsement as a tree hugger." ROFLMAO! Nice one D'Ovidio!
