The Sound of Fingers Tapping on a Keyboard

So, if a blog has been abandoned for nearly a year when a new entry is suddenly posted, will anybody read it? Well, amazingly 10 readers still subscribe to the Political Yak RSS feed, so perhaps somebody will.

Hi, folks! Yes, the Yak is back, though circumstances have changed greatly since my last post. I suppose a quick update is in order.

First of all, while I still have many familial, personal and political ties to Montgomery County, Maryland, I no longer call MoCo home. Five months ago my wife and I moved our household to central Texas, just outside of Austin. I now find myself a stranger in a strange land, struggling to learn my way around not just an unfamiliar geography, but also navigating unfamiliar community and political topographies as well.

Obviously, with our relocation, I am no longer a leader in Action In Montgomery. AIM was central to my community and political involvement back in Maryland, and though Austin is home to one of AIM's sister organizations, Austin Interfaith, I am in essence starting over. I am not a leader here, yet, and it will take quite some time for me to do the work necessary to become an effective community leader and organizer in my new home.

Still, I find myself happy, and hopeful, as I near my first half-year as a Texan. I am being challenged in so many ways and finding so many new opportunities to grow. I have always loved adventures, and this is my biggest yet. I am confident that I am exactly where I need to be. Stay tuned....
