Steele Hates Puppies?!?

Michael Steele thinks Democrats are going to slam him on-air for his hatred of puppies, a charge the Republican Senate candidate flatly denies in his latest ad.

Sorry, LG, but I don't think the Dems will have to resort to fictitious canine dislikes. There are plenty of real issues out there just ripe for the picking.

Alright, alright. Seriously, the Steele campaign has released a new ad. It's similar in format to his first, with the plain backdrop and the candidate speaking directly to the camera. Not a lot of substance (not that you can get much substance into a 30-second spot), but I think it's actually very well done.

The ad appears to be kind of a preemptive strike on Ben Cardin. Steele is attempting to frame Cardin and the Dems as negative, mudslinging, attack-ad happy thugs who will stop at nothing to win the Senate seat, while simultaneously casting himself as the political outsider who will clean things up in Washington. It's a smart move on Steele's part to try to blunt the impact of future Dem ads. I'm not convinced it will work, but it'll be interesting to see how voters will react.

Watch the ad and let me know what you think of it.
